Many students and even some teachers alike find Mathematics challenging and/or uninteresting. Sian Beilock’s recent research provides fascinating insight into the phenomenon of “Math Anxiety” and how it affects working memory in the brain which reduces the capacity to problem solve effectively. This course provides opportunities for participants to consider some practical strategies to help consistently deliver positive mathematics moral to improve students appreciation of mathematics.

By supporting teachers as well as students with evidence-based, practical strategies this course is designed to help teachers reduce mathematics anxiety and improve student learning and engagement. By dealing with some of the root causes behind an apprehension or a dislike towards mathematics, schools can foster confident and engaged maths learners.

This practical course will look at how supporting both teachers and students to develop confidence in mathematics can result in a whole-school environment that fosters creative and successful learners.
