This course is about the power that teachers have to help break the cycle of abuse that damages the brain in a child at risk, simply by being a stable adult caregiver, a caring, reliable and positive person in the classroom with each student. Research shows us that teachers can make a difference in the lives of their students. This course investigates research that shows how the brain begins a healing process in even the worst cases of abuse or trauma through the presence of a stable adult caregiver. Teachers will begin to explore research that shows that emotions and attachment not only affect loving, but they affect learning also. Teachers will be challenged to be intentional about being a safe, stable caregiver in their classrooms with every child and will have an opportunity to interact with colleagues to consider practical, time-efficient strategies for doing this.
