The course reinforces the idea that schools generally operate within imperfect, complex environments that sometimes (though without intending to) make it harder for children at risk to learn. Teachers are integral to school functioning and can make a difference in the learning and the lives of children, despite some of the common struggles of being one small player within a large education system. Teachers will apply their learning in their classroom and return to the course and continue in ongoing discussion and learning with colleagues via the discussion board and post-course resources. Through the discussion board, teachers will form a supportive network of professional colleagues as they work towards inclusive educational practices to support children with behavioural and/or learning needs.

We recommend that teachers take this course in conjunction with one or more of the following courses and use it as a means to  consolidate and reflect on their learning.

  1. How Positive Teacher-Student Relationships help Angry Students Survive the School System ( 2 hours)

  2. How Abuse and Trauma Affect Student Survival Instinct, Attachment and Cognition (2 hours)

  3. Learning to Learn – An Introduction to Brain Plasticity (2 hours)

  4. Learning to Love – How the Brain Learns to Love After Abuse and Trauma (3 hours)

  5. The Effect of Abuse and Trauma on Learning (3 hours)
